Jaipur’s City Palace is a city within the city. Its numerous courtyards are linked by magnificent gateways, high enough for the maharaja’s elephants to pass through. The palace is famous for Pritam Niwas Chowk – a smaller courtyard with four exquisite gates – the Peacock gate, Lotus gate, Rose gate and Green gate. The royal family still live in the palace and high up in their private quarters you can visit Sukh Niwas – an open pavilion with blue and white frescoes and the jewel case of a room – Shobha Nivas.
